Layars’ most popular “social augmented reality app.” Tweeps Around now available in the Android marketplace.

I just got word from Johannes la Poutre that he launched a wicked new app. a few days ago on the 27th of April. It is a direct launcher for Layars’ number one “social augmented reality app.” Tweeps Around. The launcher is an icon that you can place on the home screen of your mobile phone so you can access the Tweeps Around layer directly. I think this might be one of the next big thing that augmented reality developers will go after. So I asked Johannes what the next innovation in these so called “launchers” will be.

Johannes: “We’re experimenting with all sorts of ways to launch augmented reality layers directly: Basic launcher apps., Pro. launcher apps with sound and visuals (so called splash screens), direct links on mobile websites, buttons within existing android and iPhone apps.)”

Report: 3D Augmented Reality Flashmob (Dutch)

Beatles TABworldmedia ARflashmob Augmented RealityVandaag was het zover. Na weken van voorbereiden was de 3D Augmented Reality Flashmob een feit. Een groep van een kleine honderd mensen gewapend met Android- en iPhones verzamelden zich om 14.00 uur exact bij het Nationaal Monument op de Dam. Om klokslag 14.00 uur kregen de deelnemers aan de eerste 3D Augmented Reality Flashmob de laatste instructies van de organisatoren, Sander Veenhof en TAB Worldmedia. Er werd een grote poster met een QR code midden op het plein gelegd en mensen kregen flyers met de instructies uitgedeeld.

The first Augmented Reality Flashmob in the world. (SATURDAY 24th April)

Imagine the Dam Square in Amsterdam filled with statues and odd characters and only you can see them trough the camera of Android- and iPhone. Saturday the 24th of April this is going to be the case.  At exactly 14.00 hours the National Monument on the Dam Square will be surrounded with digital 3D statues that can be viewed in Augmented Reality with the Layar app. The rumour is that even the iconic Beatles will be there crossing the street like in the famous picture on the Abbey road.
